Chancel Choir

Central’s Chancel Choir is a volunteer singing group singing for every 11 a.m. Sunday morning worship service.  Choir members range in age from teens to seniors, with talent levels from novice to persons with degrees in music. The major strength of this choir is each person’s love of music and the appreciation of a very broad range of musical styles, as well as major works.  The choir members and director welcome anyone who loves to sing and they invite you to join this fellowship of enthusiastic singers.

The choir includes a number of choral scholarship singers from the University of Kentucky School of Music.  These are undergraduate and graduate students in music.

If you like to sing, come join us!  Contact Michael Rintamaa, Director of Music.  Chancel Choir rehearses on Thursday evenings,  7 – 8:30 p.m., during the academic year.

The Choir Year

The choir program year begins with a retreat in late August, where members begin intensive rehearsals on the major work, as well as enjoy fellowship time together.  Each Christmas, the Chancel Choir presents a major work (the McDaniel Memorial Choral Presentation) with orchestra and soloists.

The choir sings another major work on Palm Sunday (the Slabaugh Sacred Choral Masterworks Presentation), again with orchestra and soloists.  Each Easter, the Chancel Choir sings at both services with the Eastern Kentucky University Brass Quintet and timpani.
