Children’s Ministry

Knowing the importance of nurturing the faith of children, a variety of activities and ministries are offered at Central for them.   Opportunities abound to learn the stories of the Bible through active participation on Sunday mornings year-round in KidsCentral and in Vacation Bible School in the summer.  Regular singing in worship every month and mission activities continue to support the children in their faith journey, continuing through Pastor’s Class in preparation for baptism.  Central Christian Church takes seriously Jesus’ words, “Let the little children come to me, and do not stop them; for it is to such as these that the kingdom of heaven belongs.”

KidsCentral: Sunday mornings 9:35 – 10:30 a.m. Sunday mornings in KidsCentral begin with music and singing for children in preschool through 5th grade followed by the Workshop Rotation Method for the Sunday School experience.  One Bible story or text is featured each month and studied by way of a dramatic presentation on the first Sunday and a variety of workshops using different learning modalities (i.e., art, music, science, games, video, cooking, movement, puppetry, etc.) on the succeeding Sundays of that month.  Each age group rotates through the various workshops with an adult shepherd, who also serves as an assistant to the adult workshop leaders.

Children’s Church: Sunday mornings 11:15 a.m. (following children’s moment) 4-year-olds to second graders return to KidsCentral to hear a Bible Story and have an arts and crafts activity related to that story.

Junior Mission: Second Sunday morning 11:15am (following children’s moment). 3rd-5th graders participate in a mission-focused activity especially for them each second Sunday during the worship hour.

KidsSING: Wednesdays 5:15 -6:15 p.m. Music educator, Linda Reeb, and a crew of adult volunteers lead children (kindergarten through fifth grade) as they express their faith through music in our children’s choir. KidsSING participates in worship once a month, and each spring, the children present a musical that portrays a timeless story of our faith.

Pastor’s Class: During Lent in the spring.  Children and youth who are considering making a Confession of Faith and Baptism will be taught by Senior Minister David Shirey in weekly sessions leading up to their baptisms during worship.

Intergenerational Vacation Bible School: One week in early June.  Bringing the generations together to learn about our faith is the model for our Vacation Bible School when we explore Bible stories and elements of our faith through arts and crafts, music, mission, drama, and games.  VBS culminates in a church-wide picnic with live music and games for all to enjoy.
