Who we are:

We are a church of welcome!  At Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), we believe God’s love is expansive and unconditional and that through Jesus Christ, God has called us to love one another as God loves us.

We welcome believers who seek to journey in faith with Jesus Christ, as well as questioners who have doubts or do not believe.

“At Central, we celebrate the worth, dignity, and gifts of every person as a child of God. We welcome into membership all people who seek to follow Jesus Christ regardless of previous religious affiliation, mode of baptism, gender, race, ethnic background, age, sexual orientation, economic circumstance, family configuration, or ability.”

Where we began:

Central has deep roots in the heart of Lexington. Founded in 1816, Central continues to be a vital and growing congregation. We are expanding our facilities for our various ministries on our four-acre downtown campus.

What we do:

Worship is central to our community life. The sanctuary is an awesome setting surrounding us with symbols of the faith. Our music, liturgy, and preaching lead us on a spiritual journey and inspire us to live faithfully in the world.

Educational opportunities for children, youth, and adults are signals that we seek faith with understanding. We integrate the historic faith of the church with life experiences and knowledge.

Central is known for the many services our congregation provides for those in need in the Lexington community in addition to our Christian witness around the world.

How we organize ourselves:

Central is a congregation of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination, a movement for wholeness in a fragmented world. As part of the one body of Christ, we welcome all to the Lord’s Table as God has welcomed us.  While we claim that rich heritage that arrises from the Stone-Campbell Movement and the connections we have globally, we are a congregational church, meaning we claim our own identity and make decisions as a church body.   Below you will find the documents that guide us in our decision making.
